Can’t activate plugin – fatal error

This plugin sounds perfect for what I need, but it generates a fatal error when I try to activate it. This is the error:
“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /html/wp/wp-content/plugins/simply-static/simply-static.php on line 38”. The site uses Genesis themes, and has a number of plugins that have given me no problems on other sites. It’s a simple, nearly static site as is.

Would love to have the plugin available! Thanks for any help.
