  • Hi @samwp1 This is weird. I have tested adding the link using the latest version of Gutenberg (14.8.1) and have not been able to reproduce this issue, the icon appears normally.

Maybe disabling other plugins might solve the problem. Another possible solution is to update Gutenberg using the nightly version, which is the development version of Gutenberg (right now at version 14.9.20221222).

Anyway, you can also add links by selecting the text and using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + K (or ? + K if you’re on a Mac).

To remove a link, click the link and type Ctrl + Shift + K (or ? + Shift + K on Mac).

    I hope that helps.

    Hi @pagelab

    Thank you for your suggetions

Yes, this is weird, and I am tired of this.
    Keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + K didn’t work.
When I press it, just opens only the browser address bar.
Now what I am doing is deactivating the plugin and adding links, then reactivating the plugin.
Is there any harmful effect of this method?
Hope this will resolve soon in a future update.

Not at all, the link inserted in your content is independent from the block’s toolbar controls.

Hello, I have the same problem. I can’t add links to my posts. The Keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + K didn’t work. Add link button is missing. After deactivating, it works.

    Is there a solution?

Hi @samwp1 & @nordishbybella I am not able to reproduce this issue on a test site. I have the Twenty Twenty-Three theme and only Gutenberg is currently active on my site. This is what I see on my end.

To rule out a plugin or theme conflict, I’d suggest you test whether the issue is present with all your plugins temporarily deactivated and your site running on one of the default themes. You can use the?Health Check plugin‘s troubleshooting mode for this, which will not change your live site. If the problem goes away, reactivate your plugins one by one (while still in troubleshooting mode) to find the culprit.

    Hi @thelmachido

Yes, I have found it with the troubleshooter.
It conflicts with Rankmath’s new version.
Started a new support thread https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/conflicts-with-gutenberg-cant-add-links/

Thanks @samwp1 for the update and looping in Rank Math support on this one.

It looks like you are not the only ones having this issue, there is an open GitHub report on this issue. Feel free to keep track of the progress:

@samwp1 @nordishbybella @pagelab For anyone still having trouble adding links, please feel free to deactivate the Gutenberg plugin temporarily, as it’s not required to use the block editor.

The developers are currently working on a fix, which will hopefully be included in Gutenberg 14.8.2.

It looks like a new version was shipped to resolve this as per this comment, can you please update your Gutenberg plugin to the latest version. I will be marking this as resolved for now.
