Can't ADD MEDIA

What a coincidence, I’m just trying to upload a custom header image on my site and am getting exactly the same warning message as Iceberger12. And I too have just updated to 3.5

I also look forward to receiving any help and suggestions.

It looks like it doesn’t work with images that are inserted from desktop, it doesn’t work with images that are inserted from library….
It just doesn’t work at all.

Having the same problem and can’t seem to get any help I can understand. The “Add Media” button works sometimes and sometimes not. Any idea what’s going on or how to fix it?

Also, the logos and the screens in general are larger than they were prior to the update to 3.5. What’s up with this?

I just found out that the only thing that works at this time is to manually upload the file onto server via FTP and then to manually write HTML tag for inserting an image, using HTML editor. Stupid, but so far the only way for me.

I have several wordpress sites and am only having media upload problems with one. It has worked well for the past year and this problem just started a few hours ago. I can upload files to the media library but when I hit the “media” button to put a picture in my post nothing happens. I have tried inactivating plug-ins, clearing my cache, changing themes, reinstalling my 3.5 Misty theme but nothing works. Any help is greatly appreciated!

It looks like WordPress can’t read the permissions for UPLOAD folder, or something. Really frustrating and I really don’t know where to find the answer.

Exactly the same problem I had. I un-activated a plug in called simple slide show and it all came good.

I’m still following this with interest. One of the differences with my case is that I downloaded WP a while back and then very recently updated to 3.5 as my new header was ready to upload. My site is completely empty, not even a single plug-in has been installed and still it will not work. I have nothing to de-activate or change at all, and the reason I’m using WP is because I can’t do html.

I still didn’t find the answer to this problem.
I did try to follow an advice and tried to change permissions of UPLOAD folder, but I am not sure what number I should use.

When I try to insert an image from my desktop onto my page – using ADD MEDIA button – it fails to do so, giving me this warning:

“Unable to create directory uploads/2013/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I just checked the permissions of my UPLOAD FOLDER and they are as follows:

OWNER:
Access: Read Write Execute

GROUP:
Access: Read Execute
Others: Read Execute
UNIX equivalent: 755

I am not quite sure, but it might have started happening after the latest WP update.

Problems uploading images – images not appearing in Media Manager, or on the published web-page.

I’ve spent ages trying to solve this problem. In the end, I logged into my Cpanel and viewed the error_log. I got this message: (part deleted)

[20-May-2013 12:12:31 UTC] PHP Warning: readfile() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/—–/public_html/only-english-lyon.com/wp-content/plugins/user-access-manager/class/UserAccessManager.class.php on line 2077

This told me that the problem was the User Access Manager plug-in. I deactivated it. The images appeared instantly (as they had done before I had activated the plug-in).

I hope this is useful to someone, at least in terms of viewing the error_log
