Can’t add new category / categories in 2.6.3

    I just installed a brand new version of wordpress 2.6.3
    It was an install and not an upgrade.

    When I go to the category section and click on the “add category” button – nothing happens!

    I’ve googled this and also searched on this forum and found several links. One referred to the .htaccess file in wp-admin/
    I tried that and it did not work.

    Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

    Grrrr… the problem on my server was that the php files need the shebang line at the very top.

    admin-ajax.php was missing this line, therefore it was resulting in an error in the ajax response. this fixed the problem for me.

    i don’t think this is a normal case. you should check with your server administrator if php files need the shebang line. if you have other php scripts on your server and you’ve never had to manually add that line in, then chances are that something else is wrong.
