Up until roughly the start of March I was able to add line spaces in my posts by simply pressing the return key when writing a new post. In actual fact what I usually do is write my posts in microsoft word and then cut and paste the text into the wordpress editor box.

Now whenever I add a line space it is automatically removed when I eiter publish the new post or if I am trying to edit a post the line spaces are removed when I click the update button.

I have noticed that quite a few wordpress users are having this problem but nobody seems to have come up with a soloution. People have suggested trying all manner of code but, there never seems to be a satisfactory outcome. Anyway, I feel that having to write code is unacceptable as I never used to have to do this when I started with wordpress 12 months ago. I dont’ have the time to mess around like that either.

I have heard some people say that they are putting in full stops on the line they want a space to appear and then changing the colour of the full stops to the same colour as the background, giving the impression of a blank line.

Can somebody please help me as this problem is stopping me from publishing on wordpress at the same volume as I used to.

  • Don’t paste content from Microsoft Word into WordPress as the pasted text will also contain Word’s own formatting. Sooner or later, this formatting will stop your pages from being displayed correctly (if at all) in Internet Explorer. If you cannot possibly manage without Word, paste your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress.

Or use the inbuilt Paste from Word option in the Visual Editor. Or Windows LiveWriter.

If you continue to have problems without using Word, a link to your site would help.

Thanks esme I’ll give that a try.

I never thought that using word would have an affect. You see I don’t write all the content of my blog myself. There are numerous authours who post content to me. All of them tend to use word and I’ve just been copying and pasting the content of their posts into wordpress. I’ll stop doing that though and try another method.

It seems I’ve been lucky up to now as it’s worked for the past twelve months.

    Thanks again for your advice.

Downloaded and started using Windows Live Writer.

    All sorted.

    Thanks
