Can’t Broadcast – error thrown when looking at debug logs

Open up phpmyadmin and take a look at that table’s auto increment value.

Indeed, look at the table contents at all, because the table seems a bit broken.

Absolutely bang on my DB was in mess! I now have the post/page broadcasting but when I try to the view page on the multi-site that it’s broadcasted too, I get a 404 any ideas? If I use plain permalinks then it works but anything with a custom structure I get 404?

How is the custom structure set up? Using the built-in permalinks settings or a plugin? In the case of the former, things should just work.

In the case of the latter, then I wonder what the problem could be. How different are the permalinks, anyways?

Ignore it’s 404ing on main site too!

It sounds like your install is not at all feeling well, if a post created on the parent site – which Broadcast does not touch – results in a 404.

Some other questions however, posts and pages are not being marked as broadcaseted in the post/page table views?

I have images in post/page content like,

This URL is getting rewritten in the broadcasted post/page to,

Is there a way to stop that being rewritten within the plugin?

And finally,

if changes are made and the post is saved, the changes are not automatically broadcast. If we select broadcast and update, a duplicate post is made on the site we broadcasted to.

Then duplicates and non-changes sound like the broadcast linking table is broken (missing the ID column). So I’d look at getting that fixed first.

Regarding the image URL, the best thing to do would be to enable Broadcast debug mode, broadcast the post in question and then send me the long, long debug text to read through. That will tell me what Broadcast is doing.

The above is a debug from broadcasting a page, from a fresh install of the plugin, the URL of images is still being re-written and the page is not being marked as being broadcasted on it’s parent site.

Regarding the page not being marked as broadcasted, you still have the same error as before: the broadcasting / linking table does not have the ID column.

This is because your WordPress database user does not have permission to make modifications to existing tables.

You could try fixing this by visiting Admin > Broadcast > Maintenance tab > Broadcast data. It should say that the ID column is missing and that it has tried to create it. If you run the maintenance test again, you’ll probably see the error again, meaning that your db admin must give your database user permission to alter existing tables.

Regarding the images, there is no such link to mymedia-cdn.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com in the post content. The post content contains image links to https://staging.leeds-list.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/here-we-go-now-07-23-leeds-list-9.jpg. You can see this for yourself in the debug text or by using

Admin > Broadcast > Maintenance tab > View post info

It’s possible your CDN plugin is modifying the links at displaytime, but there are no CDN links in the post content.

Regarding the images, this what I see in my text editor

However when I view the post at Broadcaster > Maintenance > View Post I get,

So something is occuring in the broadcast to change the src of images?

Other way round: broadcast is broadcasting what is in the database.

What you see in the editor is the modified content, which is modified by some plugin while editing, and then replaced with staging-leeds again after you save the post.

The wp_3_posts table has a broken index.

The primary key should be unique ID that increments each time a new post is created or image updated or whatever.

What the error is saying is that it is trying to create a new post and the unique ID is being set to 0, which already exists. Even that is wrong, since there should never be a row ID in that table with the ID 0.

So, I’d definitely ask my database admin to have a look at the tables and see what’s wrong and fix that.

The broken database seems to the root cause of most of the broadcasting problems.

Shouldn’t the plugin set all the indexing, or is legacy broken setting up multisites in the first place do you think?
