Can’t change menu text color

Hello, I cannot seem to change the color of the menu text in Sydney. Under customize > header > main header > style I have chosen black for the text color as well as the bottom row text color, and yet the menu is still white ??
Could this be a bug? I am using the free version of Sydney, so no css available. Or maybe I am in the wrong section of the customizer ? I have looked elsewhere but really can’t see another way to change the text. For info, I have a media (video) header in the hero area, and have set transparent backgrounds for the menu’s background. Any help would be so much appreciated! Thanks for your time and input.
