• I’ve seen this issue addressed in other posts. but nothing suggested has helped me resolve this problem! I’ve got a page called Events, but the permalink is “events-2” and no matter what I do, I cannot get it to change to just “events.” I’ve deleted every single page and post in the trash, so it’s not that there’s another page called “events” somewhere. This is making me crazy!

Here’s a link to the page in question (the site isn’t live yet): https://firstccsj.org/wordpress/events-2/

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Please check if you have a Page in Trash that is titled or otherwise uses the slug ‘events’ – if so, delete that from Trash – also check with theme or plugin if ‘events’ is a default page Title or Slug.

Just delete pages from trash & then change the permalink because in your trash, there is also one event page (with permalink event).

I have posted my problem onto the plugin support site as follows: “The permalink I get after I have made a new event page is https://valentinepress.com.au/?rsvpmaker=book-launch-memoirs-of-a-dedicated-amateur-2014-9-26. I read that this needs to be … au/rsvpmaker/book-launch etc. I cannot change the permalink on the edit page for that event because there is no Edit button beside the permalink, and if I click Change Permalink it only takes me to a page which would change all my permalinks, not just this one.
(When I try to view the page, either from the menu link on the main website or via the view post or view event items on the edit page, I just eventually get a blank page.)

The reason I am posting here is that the only partial solution I have seen to the problem of the missing Edit button beside the Permalink was to change all the permalinks from default. It is true that this then gives you an edit button beside the page permalink. However this also means that all your permalinks have changed and are no longer accessible. Going back to the default permalinks means the new Edit button disappears.
p.s. there are no similar pages in Trash.

Image file names also count as premalinks, not just pages and posts. I had the same problem; had a look at the database, column post-name in table posts and I noticed I had an image that occupied the name I intended to give to a page. I deleted the offending image, uploaded a renamed version of it, changed the page premalink to the one of the deleted image and it worked!!!

@goptun thanks man, that solved it in my case! I didn’t think of images…

    Thanks again!
