I just installed a new copy of WordPress on my home server to do some theme testing, but, for some reason, clicking on a theme in the design section does nothing — no reaction at all.

Where to I look to track this problem down & fix it? I tried permissions – even tried permissions of 777 throughout the install, but same result. Do I have a missing file?

  • I am also doing quite a bit of testing on my local XAMPP install but never bother to even open the online theme editor – probably the worst ever “innovation” in WP’s history.

While I have the local server running I am editing my template files in a text editor (e.g. PSPad) and click refresh in the browser to see the results. Why do you need the editor?

    Hi

No, misunderstanding. I simply cannot change the theme away from the standard Kubrick theme. Clicking on other themes (which appear on the Design page ok) does nothing. So I can’t see the blog with any other theme. Simply can’t change it. Editing it, however I do it, comes later!

    Any ideas?

This morning I did a complete re-install and it works. My guess is I had a missing file due to an FTP problem (if anyone comes up against this again).
