Can’t clear old GTM ID

    Hello,

    I had a Google Tag installed to my site through GTM for wordpress plugin 2 years ago, and I can’t seem to delete the old tag or add new ones. I’ve tried adding a new Tag ID in, I’ve even tried deleting the old container ID, but through the Tag Manager extension, I still see 2 tags on the site. I checked the network through the developer tools on my browser and I still see 2 tags (I don’t know why there’s 2 either) coming up on the site. I’ve successfully installed GTM on another site using this extension and it worked fine, but however it was installed before (i didnt install it 2 years ago) I cant clear it or add another one.

    Hi,

    I checked the site you posted in this thread and next to the container code of this plugin there is a manually added container code.

    It was added either
    * using another plugin that can add codes to the header of the page
    * in your theme settings somewhere
    * directly editing your (child) theme (header.php?)

    Hi,

    Thanks for responding. I just removed the manually added code – that was also the new GTM ID.

    Now I have just the plugin activated with the correct GTM.

    Hello,

    Sorry if i wasnt clear in my reply.

    The manually added GTM container you saw was also the new tag, yet on the tag assistant extension the old/deleted tag was still showing.

    Now I have only the new code through the plugin yet I still see two GTM tags in the tag assistant, and they’re both the old one. Let me know if this is beyond the scope of what you can help with and if you suggest another means of resolving this.
