• I recently noticed that top level items in the primary navigation menu that have a dropdown menu are no longer are clickable. Hovering over the top level item reveals the dropdown as intended, and the URL of the item appears in the bottom of the browser window when clicked on, but the link is disabled.

I have three sites using Kadence theme (v1.1.12) and they all have this issue. All are using a child theme. Two of them are over a year old and I don’t remember this behavior. Is it a bug or an intended change?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,
I can click on the top level links on that site? I notice that you need to regenerate your CSS for that site, your caching plugin is cached an old minified version that is out of date. Once that is fixed the menus will look better too.

    Hello,

I am have the same problem… When Top level menu item has children then the top menu item is not clickable. Is there a way to change this behavior?

    Thank you,

    Richard

    Hi @rasworpr,
Can you post a link to your site so we can see this in action?

    Thanks,

So this problem fixed itself somehow a few days after posting, then recently came back again. I’ve regenerated CSS via Elementor’s tool (and clearned browser cache) but the issue persists.

This is an active dev site that has no caching plugin and never had one installed. Is there a server or site cache I have to worry about?

This issue still persists. Site is now launched at https://www.ncrcd.org/

The “Resources” and “About” top level menu items are affected. The cursor changes on hover and you see the URL in the bottom left of the browser window when clicked, but otherwise clicking does nothing. No errors in the console.

Other site using Kadence with this issue:
    https://bostontaxinstitute.com/
    https://www.grassvalleychamber.com/

Anyone else having this frustrating problem?? Did the functionality get changed??

    Hi Sarah,
Sorry for your frustration! I just tested in all the links you sent and was not able to replicate this issue. What browser are you working in? Have you cleared all cache?

    Kindly,
    Hannah

Yes, they are working for me currently as well. This happened before. I don’t know what triggers the fix OR what retriggers the problem. Extremely frustrating to say the least! I recognize that this is the free version of the theme, but a week response time makes it difficult for you to experience what I do, when the problem is sporadic like this. Kadence has been my agency’s new go-to theme, but this does little to build confidence in going Pro. ??

As for cache, I never got an answer to my above question. When the site was in dev, there as no caching plugin installed and I cleared browser cache several times. Is there some other cache to clear? Can you please be extremely specific when you mean “All caches” beyond the above? Do I need to go to my sysadmin about a server side cache? We run our LAMP stacks on Digital Ocean. Let me know what further steps I can take to help diagnose.

    Hi,
Please record a video of the issue when you have it happen to you again.

If you want faster support use our support ticketing system on our site.

The theme does not cache anything so when we say all cache we mean all that you are adding via your server or extra plugins. There is no way for us to tell you what exactly that is because it’s up to how your hosting is working and what plugins you have installed.

As an example on the first site, you linked to you are using WP rocket which will add caching. Separately it will build minified CSS and javascript files if you tell it to and those need to be cleared. Best to contact their support if you are wanting help with understanding how their plugin works and how to clear and rebuild the resource files.

Final note, WP Rocket recently released an option to “remove unused CSS”. It’s got a huge beta label on it and in our testing it’s not reliable and usually creates issues. If you are using that I suggest you turn that off.

Oh and I don’t have any other reports that I am aware of with this issue. So certainly is odd and I’m interested to see what the cause is once we can recreate it.

    Ben

Bumping this up as I’m currently having the exact same issue on my site. I’ve checked on your site linked in the original post and see that the issue still persists.

Is there any update to this at all or are the Dev team able to look into why this may be happening at all please?

    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Since the original poster never reached back out, we were never able to solve this issue.

Your problem may or may not be related to theirs, so please start a new topic describing your problem, and include a link to where it’s happening so we can take a look.

Always start a new topic for each ticket, since it’s always possible that your problem may be totally unrelated to the original poster’s.

    Thanks,
    Kevin
