Hi, I am a frequent user of Google Site Kit and it has been quite flawless process. However, I could not connect this website with Google Site Kit.

An error occurred: The necessary verification token could not be found on your site. This may be related to your site using a page caching plugin. Please flush your home page cache and then try again.

I created multiple websites with this exact theme & plugin combination and connected them with Google Site Kit with no issues. This is the first time I encountered this issue.

I also have tried using the Site Health plugin with Troubleshoot method. Doesn’t work either.

Thanks for reaching out @bataranarada. Given this is only occurring on a single site, please share your Site Health information and we can inspect this sites setup, while also providing some suggestions on how to ensure you can complete setup. This may be via check for an conflicting plugins, a CDN or a hosting feature, or a workaround by manually verifying site ownership at Search Console level.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Note that we also have a guide on the plugin website in relation to this.

If you prefer to share your Site Health information privately, you can use this form.

I can see you already did share your Site Health information @bataranarada, many thanks. As I can see some additional htaccess rules for your site, please share the following:

    1. Do you see any ‘WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE’ references when checking your wp-config.php file? If so, please share what you see. You’ll find this file in the root directory of your site from your hosting file manager, or FTP. We have more details on how such references can impact Site Kit?here.
    2. Does the same occur if you visit your permalinks page (Settings > Permalinks) and press the “Save change” button? This will recreate a fresh .htaccess file for you. I ask as rules applied at .htaccess level can impact Site Kit behavior.?
    3. Are you able to verify your site ownership via clicking on the grey “Verify your ownership” when accessing this URL (please replace example.com with your own URL): https://search.google.com/search-console?resource_id=https://example.com

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Hi @jamesosborne thanks for the swift response.

    1. I do not see anything that mention WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE in the wp-config.php file.
    2. I updated the Permalinks configuration, retried connecting with Site Kit, I still receive the same error.
    3. I tried to verify through the HTML tag, but it failed. I double checked my HTML tag placement via view-source, and the meta tag is already there.

I forgot to mention that the error that comes from Google Search Console is this:

Could not find your site. Please check that you provided the correct URL for your property.

@bataranarada Thank you for sharing the information you have thus far. Could I please check with you if you have tried attempting a Site Kit reset? If not, could you try this and see if you encounter the same again when trying to set up Site Kit?

    Hi @adamdunnage,

Tried it (using the Tools > Reset Site Kit), retried connecting again, I encounter the same thing.

@bataranarada Thanks for trying this and sorry to hear it hasn’t helped. Could I please ask you what the exact URL is that you are using when trying the manual verification on Search Console? You can share here or in the private form you shared previously.

It may also be helpful if you could share a recording of you trying this process so I can see what is happening on your screen.

@adamdunnage Submitted through the form. Please check. Thanks

@bataranarada Thank you for sharing. Could I ask if you have tried to verify the site using www instead of the URL without it? If you haven’t, could you also try verifying manually this way to see if you get a different outcome?

You could also try asking the question on the Search Console Help Center where you may be able to get assistance on why this can’t be verified.

I decided to verify my Search Console through DNS configuration and continued the Site Kit setup normally.

@bataranarada That’s good to hear! Glad you have managed to get this set up and Site Kit working on the site. Is there anything else I can help with?
