Can’t Connect to gmail (imap or pop3)

    I have looked at the help docs and through the first few pages of the support forum and haven’t found a similar thread, but if i’ve missed it feel free to just link me.
    I’m having trouble getting postie to connect to gmail and i’ve tried both the imap instructions and the pop3 instructions. Here’s the error i’m getting while testing the pop3 connection:

    Warning: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to tls://pop.gmail.com:995 (Connection timed out) in /xxxxx/xxxxxxxx/public_html/greaterthanzero/wp-content/plugins/postie/lib/pSocketConnection.php on line 37
    Unable to connect. The server said:
    There was an error connecting to the server Connection timed out

    (x’s added by me)

    Any assistance anyone can offer would be very appreciated. Thanks!

    Typically this means that your host doesn’t allow connections over port 995. You’d need to contact your hosting company and ask if they allow outbound connections on port 995 from the web server.

    thank you, we got the connection working by setting up an email on my hosting instead of using gmail for it.
