I recently had a WordPress installation where it wouldn’t let me create a password and it wouldn’t let me drag menu items around. I couldn’t solve it until I blew away the database. Then everything was initially working until now I see that I can’t edit any of the builtin themes. The options don’t show. In addition, I can’t find any new themes to add.

What could be causing this weird behavior.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

I blew away the twentysixteen, twentyseventeen, twentynineteen themes and that helped a little. The twentytwenty theme is now customizable, but I still can’t find any new themes to add nor can I give a new user a password.

Are you currently logged in as an Administrator?

Can you access the Users section of the Dashboard? If so, what role is listed next to your username?

It’s super weird because last night I was seeing varying limits to the functionality in different browsers, but today all functionality is working in all browsers. I have absolutely no explanation.
