• When I go into my options and uncheck the box then save it stays checked. Is there a specific configuration file that these settings are stored in? Do I have to maybe give file permissions to that file if so?

Also I have run a sql query I found to set them to disabled for all older posts but that seems to not have worked, unless it’s due to this setting still being on.

So, I’ve just tried to go directly into the database and change the wp_options table setting of default_ping_status to closed and it says it changed but then I query the table again and its back to open, any help is greatly appreciated

Anyone have any thoughts on why I can’t disable this setting? I can disable comments and it stays unchecked, but pingbacks and trackbacks just remains checked even if I uncheck it and save settings

I have the same issue …

Okay, I found what was wrong on my installation. I use the plugin “Spam Free WordPress” – and that Plugin overrides these controls. You have to modify the SPW-Code or check the “Close Pingbacks” Box in sfw-Settings. It also disabled your blog pinging other blogs – but since I don’t want this spammy things, I may as well also disable pinging others.

This is great that you found this. I also use Spam Free WordPress and didn’t even realize it had the same setting to override the default.
