• I cant do automatic wordpress upgrade from the wordpress itself. I installed wordpress on a folder inside the root directory and i have ftp access directly to the root directory. When I try it shows a message “Unable to locate WordPress Root directory.Installation Failed”. Same happens for automatic plugin installations too. What can I do to perform automatic upgrades and other installations? I really like that feature because of its simplicity. I have entered all the ftp parameters correctly.

  • Where are you hosted? Other question, are you on free hosting service?

yes, i have hosted on byethost.com. But my friend’s site hosted on the same host and same plan(free) works fine.

Ok, but in your friend’s site hosted on the same host, is her/his WordPress also installed in a subdirectory like you are doing or in root?
Googling your error message “Unable to locate WordPress Root directory.Installation Failed” yielded some possible solutions here and here.
