Can't edit my site after plugin download

Try wp-content/plugins via ftp and remove or rename the particular plugin’s folder (not the main plugin folder).

now, is there a good app to suspend the site with a splash page that says the site is under maintenance?

Did you activated the plugin you just downloaded? If so you need to ftp to your site and navigate to the plugin directory and rename the plugin folder you just activated. Example “name” to “name-bup” and than try login to your site again.

I personally have used Easy Pie Maintenance Mode, but you should check the ratings and reviews to make the best choice for your needs.

After activating the * backup-wp * plugin my admin AND front end are inaccessible and only display text:

I tried deleting the “backup-wp” plugin directory via ftp
but that did not solve anything
