Despite having a website on my own server (Brulosophy.com), I hugely prefer editing from WordPress.com, which requires Jetpack, rather than WP-Admin. A few weeks ago, as I was going to edit an article, I clicked “Add new post” and was redirected to WP-Admin editor. I figured it was a temporary issue, but nothing has changed.

I do not have an active WordPress dot COM website, I only have my self-hosted site, brulosophy.com, and I have no problems editing from WP-Admin. However, with Jetpack installed, I’m able to use WordPress dot com to check my stats as well as edit posts and pages, it’s what I’ve been doing for years and far prefer over WP-Admin.

After changing absolutely nothing on my end, whenever I use WordPress dot COM to edit posts (https://wordpress.com/posts/brulosophy.com), rather than opening up a new post with the white and light blue background on WordPress dot com, it now redirects me to WP-Admin.

I apologize for the redundancy, just trying to be as clear as possible. I will freaking pay someone to help me with this at this point!

    Thanks!

Hm, what browser do you use? Does anything change when using a different one? Does clearing your cache change anything?

If that doesn’t work, would you be willing to temporarily disable mod_security to see if these issues clear up?

@fresatomica – I primarily use Chrome, but I’ve also tried on Safari and Explorer, same exact thing happens.

Hey @macmanx, like I mentioned yesterday, I completely deleted and reinstalled Jetpack to no avail. However, it appears to have created a new issues that’s quite concerning– the post I published this morning never got emailed out to my subscribers. I even tried deleting the original post and reposting a new version of it, just to ensure it wasn’t something weird with that particular post, and the email never went out. Any chance you know how to fix this?

Edit: here’s the link to the post in question – https://brulosophy.com/2020/11/05/the-hop-chronicles-mosaic-lupomax-2019/

UPDATE: I figured out what was wrong with the whole post notification thing. When I deleted and reinstalled Jetpack, it turned this feature off in the subscriptions module. I turned it back on, created a new post with all the information, deleted the original, posted the new, and the email came through. Whew.

Still unable to edit from within Calypso ??

We’re hearing of some issues with this on the Windows app specifically. Are you using WordPress.com itself or the Windows app?

    Thread Starter brulosopher

    (@brulosopher)

@macmanx – I’m not sure what you mean by “the Windows app,” but I’m seeing the same issue on a iMac, MacBook Pro, and PC.

What @macmanx was referring to is the WordPress desktop app: https://apps.wordpress.com/desktop/.

Since you were confused about the question, I guess you do not use the app ??. It would be great if you could confirm though.

Also, could you try flushing your site’s cache as well? There may be some stored info that doesn’t recognize the editor change.

    (@brulosopher)

@fresatomica – Ahh, haha, my bad. Yeah, I do not use the desktop app, as I write from numerous computers in numerous places throughout the week, which is actually why I love Calypso so much.

I’m not terribly keen on web stuff, so I’ll reach out to my host to see if they can flush my site’s cache and report back afterwards.

Thanks so much to both of you for all of your help on this, I truly appreciate it!

UPDATE: Cache was flushed and I’m still being redirected to wp-admin when I try to edit from Calypso ??

I’m to the point where I’d pay someone to fix this for me! Haha.

Hm, ok, this appears to be related to https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/47118 so we’ll look into this, and you can follow along there if you’d like.

Thanks, @macmanx, I’ll be following with bated breath!

Are you using the Classic Editor plugin? If so, that appears to be the conflict as it’s no longer compatible with Calypso, so you’ll need to deactivate the Classic Editor plugin to continue editing your site in Calypso.

    Thread Starter brulosopher

    (@brulosopher)

@macmanx – I thought that might be it when the issue first arose, so I deactivated that plugin and it didn’t fix the issue. I loathe the block editor, but I’d be willing to adapt if it allows me to use Calypso. Deactivating again now, I’ll report back after everything has time to update.

So it’s been about 45 minutes since I deactivated and deleted the Classic Editor plugin. One positive is that I’m sorta getting the hang of the block editor (copy/paste previous articles helps), but unfortunately, I’m still being redirected to wp-admin when trying to edit a draft or add new post from within Calypso.

It’s now been 2 days and I’m still being redirected. For now, I’ll be reinstalling the Classic Editor plugin.
