My feeds either DON’T work when I’m trying to use them to create a post, but then DO work after I publish the post and click the link from my homepage OR the other way around; they DO work when I’m creating the post, but DON’T work when I click on them from my homepage. In the former case, I can’t edit the options. In the latter case, there’s no point because the links don’t work, anyway.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

@tinytimsnowborn I’m not sure I understand the problem. Can you please paste the entire shortcode you are using and share the link to the page that show the result of the shortcode?

    What’s a short code?

I don’t know how else to describe the problem. Is there a way to post screenshots?

@tinytimsnowborn please explain how you are trying to use the plugin step by step.

This is Feedzy, right? I go to create a new post. I click on the little Feedzy icon to use an RSS feed in the new post. The dialogue box that comes up only lets me enter the URL for the feed. I click to load the feed and sometimes I get a message saying the feed failed to load. If I publish the post anyway and then navigate to my front page and click on the new post, there’s the feed; working fine. Other times, when I enter the URL for the feed and then click to load it, the feed appears to work immediately – no error message – but if I then navigate to my front page and click on the new post, THEN I get an error message saying the link didn’t work. In the latter case, when the feed appears to work, I’m able to edit the options. In the former case, when I immediately get an error message, I can’t edit the options.

@tinytimsnowborn when you use an invalid feed we don’t allow you to edit the configuration because it serves no purpose. If you feel the feed is valid, could you share the URL and we will try to check it at our end?

Also, to make sure we understand every aspect of your problem, could you add a screen recording as well, or at the very least, screenshots?

I understand that, but that doesn’t tell me why the feeds work after I’ve gotten an error message, but don’t work after I DON’T get an error message.

Here are the feeds I’m trying to use:
    https://www.vice.com/en_us/rss,
    https://www.politico.com/rss/politicopicks.xml,
    https://www.motherjones.com/feed/
    https://feeds.crooksandliars.com/crooksandliars/politics
    https://www.wonkette.com/feeds/politics.rss

I will be happy to add screenshots if you’ll tell me how to do that. I don’t see that option anywhere.

@tinytimsnowborn you can use any popular image hosting service such as https://prnt.sc/ to add screenshots.

Sorry for the late reply. Here’re the screenshots.

When I try to use a feed, I get an error message like this: https://prnt.sc/qnp1db

But if I publish it anyway, it works: https://prnt.sc/qnp2s8

I swear I’ve had it work the other way around, where the feed worked when I was creating the post, but not after I published it, but that doesn’t seem to be happening with any of the feeds now; just the above. At any rate, I can’t edit the options when I keep getting that error message in the first screenshot.

@tinytimsnowborn I’ve copy/pasted the URLs from https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/cant-edit-options-4/#post-12310347 and I don’t get that error – the block loads perfectly. Can you please make sure you have the latest version? Could you also let me know your WP version? Also, does this happen when you create a new block or when you are trying to edit a block you had created earlier?

    Thread Starter tinytimsnowborn

    (@tinytimsnowborn)

How do I know if I have the latest version? If I don’t, how do I update it?

    My WP version is 5.3.2.

This happens when I create a new block.

Can you also tell me how to grab a particular story from an RSS feed, instead of grabbing the whole feed?

    Plugin Contributor contactashish13

    (@rozroz)

@tinytimsnowborn you can find the version in the page where the plugins are listed. Your WP should prompt you to update it if you have an older version.

If you want to grab a particular story, you can use the offset and max parameters. Let’s say your feed has 100 items and you want to grab the 50th story, you need to provide the value of offset to 49 and max to 1.

    (@tinytimsnowborn)

Thank you. According to my Plugins page, I have version 3.3.16.

Thank you, also, for generally explaining how to grab a particular story. I don’t suppose I could trouble you for a link to a tutorial on how exactly to go about doing that, could I? That seems like it’s probably going to be more complicated than it sounds.

    Much appreciated.

@tinytimsnowborn what I’ve mentioned is part of the Advanced settings that you get when you click the block. I was merely mentioning the logic. You only have to set the parameters appropriately in the screen.

    (@tinytimsnowborn)

Alright, so assuming that lets me grab a particular article from a feed, there’s still the issue of why the feeds work when they say they don’t and don’t work when they say they do. What do I do about that?

    Plugin Contributor contactashish13

    (@rozroz)

@tinytimsnowborn the feeds should be in one line separated by commas, without any newline characters. Can you please make sure that is how you are providing them?
