OK, this is strange. I’m running WordPress 2.0, just newly installed. My blog is hosted at Dreamhost.

When I view my blog and click on a link to the about page, that page loads and I see the sample text on the page: “This is an example of a WordPress page…” I decide to edit it, so I click on the “edit” link there.

For a second it all looks good: I get bounced over to the editor screen, and it looks as if I can edit that page. But that only lasts for a second or so – then I’m bounced right back to the “about” page where I started. Weird. This happens every time, no matter what browser I use.

OK, so I decide to try another way. I go find the “page management” section of my wp-admin. The “about” page is listed there, so I click the “edit” beside that. For a brief moment I see the text editor thing come up, but then I am bounced right back to where I was, looking at the list of the pages. Huh.

I try creating a new page, but this is worse: it keeps reloading the text editor again and again and again until I bail out completely by clicking on some other area of my wp-admin control panel. And then when I click back into Page Management a minute later, I see that WP has created 14 or 15 totally empty pages!

I thought maybe a theme might be causing this problem, so I switched back to WordPress Classic 1.5 for a few minutes. No improvement.

I’ve searched for information about this, but no luck. Is my problem related to the one described at this page?

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I’d be very glad to get some help. Thanks!

This is fixed now. It seems to have been related to another problem I had. The cause? First I installed WordPress, and then I uploaded a new .htaccess file. I didn’t realize that WordPress adds some stuff to the bottom of the .htaccess file. By overwriting that, I broke all kinds of stuff and caused myself much grief.

The fix was to replace my .htaccess file with a blank .htaccess file. Then, within WordPress 2.0, I went to Options> Permalinks, and clicked the “update permalink structure button. That writes the important stuff WP needs to the .htaccess file. Problem solved!

I’m having the exact same problem as above. I’m using Blue Host. I’m brand new to this, and I don’t think I did anything to break links, but does anyone have any suggestions to help me?

Did you always have this problem with your “brand new” blog that has 354 posts?
    Or just recently?

I’ve always had it. The Blog is brand new, I imported almost 300 posts from LiveJournal. Sorry for the confusion there. I can post fine, it’s just the pages I can’t edit.

More info on this, it worked fine on another computer, so I think it is a problem on mine. Is it some kind of java or php setting?

Same problem, brand new WordPress installation:

Whenever I try to edit a page, it immediately posts back to the server after loading the editor. When I click New page, it opens the editor, posts back, opens the editor, posts back and so on, so I end up with a bunch of empty pages. I have disabled every single plug-in and every single pop-up/ad blocker and tested this in both IE and Mozilla. This seems to apply to comments as well, but not to posts.

It all works when I disable the visual rich editor…

This has absolutely nothing to do with .htaccess files or permalinks.
