Cant Edit Website

I am very new to this but I am using a Mac. I downloaded MAMP…followed the directions and created a website locally on my computer. I have been working on it and editing it regularly for weeks. Today I went to edit it and it appears but WordPress does not? So I am basically looking at the website as if it was up on the web. The options to edit and word-press seems to have disappeared? PLEAE HELP???
