Can't enable comments on blog running Clearly Modern Theme

I have enabled comments on each post and in the Discussion area of Settings. But I never get any comment box or anything to appear on a blog post.
I’m using Clearly Modern theme v 1.5.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated! I’m no expert & this site was set up by someone else a few years back, so I’m trying to jump on board after the fact!
