I’m falling at the first hurdle. So I installed Events Manager 5.5.5 on WordPress 4.1.1.

“It is highly recommended you read the Getting Started guide on our site” so I click through to https://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/getting-started/ but this the images are coming up too blurred to see. The images are clickable, and I can see they’re clearer, but then the screen goes black and blanks out the images (IE, FF and Chrome).

“If you view the new Events Page on your site, you should see a list of three example events, which you can delete”.

Nope, I got nothing – no events.

On the left hand column, there are two icons for events – one has a shield icon with 8 submenus for Event Tags etc, which leads to:
    wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=event

The other has a sort of calendar icon, no submenu, although the top page is very similar, but this one leads to
    /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=events (note the extra S).

From what I can see in the “you should read these docs”, the screenshots look NOTHING like what I’m seeing in my WordPress. For example, in the docs there are tabs for “General > Pages > Format” and so on. I see nothing like this anywhere.

I’m a bit concerned about continuing as clearly something has gone wrong, but no amount of uninstall and re-install brings the demo pages or tabs, although the second “Events” icon with the calendar remains. I cannot for the life of me work out where this is coming from because there is no other events plugin.
