Yoast is telling me I have 2 sections longer than 300 words. One is all bullet points so I am going to leave the (wish it wouldn’t get flagged!)

I cannot find the other. I read another thread and checked all my H2 and H3 subheadings, none contain a line break.

Any other ideas what is flagging the >300 issue? Thanks.

@happynaturaldog Are you using a page builder or are you using the default WordPress editor to create the page’s content? Sometimes in the case of a page builder you can receive an incorrect content analysis due the Yoast SEO plugin not detecting the content correctly, or there being an issue with Yoast SEO not being able to read the content as expected. We just wanted to check first before trying to replicate the issue with the content of the page in question.

Hi Carl, I create the content in MS Word and classify the content’s title and headers in MS Word before I copy and paste it into WordPress. I do not have a page builder plugin.

When I look at the code it seems like it copies in OK, but maybe this is the source of the problem?

@happynaturaldog I personally doubt it’s the cause of the issue, but it is possible that some type of formatting element of MS Word is being copied over that is causing the issue, so I’d still recommend ruling it out as an option first. I’m not sure how much of the formatting you are doing in MS Word (such as H1, H2, etc) but I’d recommend to try first stripping out the formatting content by pasting it into a simple text editor (such as Notepad), then recopying the content from Notepad into WordPress, and then try reformatting it using the WordPress editor and then seeing whether the issue still occurs. If it’s still occurring after doing that, then the issue isn’t related to you formatting it first in MS Word.

OK I will give that a try, thanks Carl.

    Hi Carl,
So I did what you said, and it is something in the MS Word formatting, because the Yoast report was correct. Coming in from Notepad Yoast said I had one section >300 words which is correct (it’s a bulleted list). Coming in from MS Word it said I had two.

Is there any way of finding out what is triggering this code-wise? It is so much easier to write and format in MS Word.

    Thanks,
    Karen

    Hello Karen!

MS Word and other word processors interpret formatting differently. With word processors, typically, the end goal is to have a static printable document. Content for websites, on the other hand, has to be dynamic. The goal is to have the content shown on different browsers, varying sizes of screens, even different specs of end-user’s device, etc.
