Assuming WordPress is up to date, and the plugin is installed and active, then:

    1. go to the homepage
    2. press the customize button in the admin bar
    3. Go to the front page categories menu

yes this works on the original website using wordpress default twenty seventeen theme.

i have another website using Xing theme and i would like to implement this, there izn’t front page categories menu in the customize area

I have to agree sometimes people make addons and assume people know the software.
I have created websites along time but new to word press, but its the same with any online software developers spend months sometimes building something and then give vague instructions. I am still trying to get this thing to work.. There is no front page in the Customizer not on my site 4.9.4 I am looking right at the 2017 theme and noope no setting and it is activated
