• I recently switched my theme to Clear Line Theme because I liked how “recent posts” came up in columns on the index page in the demo. However, now that I have it, I can’t figure out how to get these columns. I changed the settings under Appearance>>Clear Line Theme Options>>Index Page, but nothing has changed on any of my pages. How do I know which page is supposed to be my index and, if I don’t have one, can I add an index page?

Thanks esmi! This really helped and I think I’m almost there! After following these directions I ended up with two pages…my homepage (“static page”) with the welcome message and description of my company…and then a “posts” page with all my recent blog posts. Ideally, I would like to combine the two…have the welcome message up top always stay the same and then showcase my latest blog posts in those columns with the pictures and summary of the article. Do you know if it’s possible to make this happen/what I can do to get it like this or did I just miss a step somewhere?

How about using Front page that displays posts with a sticky post!

I would like to combine the two

In that case, you need to switch back to a front page that shows your most recent posts. Then edit your theme’s index.php template file and add your welcome message to the template file itself.

    what is a sticky post?

you can save a post as sticky in Admin (see Visibility setting in the right panel).

This will place the post at the top of the front page for posts and keep it there after new posts are made.

That sticky post is the right idea but I can’t customize it to show my picture full size (it’s only a thumbnail–but even smaller than the others below). Any hints for that one? I’m scared to mess with the index template file because I (clearly) have no clue what I’m doing…

It would help if we could see your site.
