I’m trying to learn WordPress. I have a local install on a Win7 machine. After the installation I imported a postsxml file to populate it with posts, comments, and pages etc. At one point I deleted all of them and now I want them back so I uploaded and imported the file again, but after the process it tells me all of the data already exists, but I’ll be darned if I can find it in the posts, comments, or pages sections. The only thing I find is the categories which are still there as I didn’t delete them in the first place. Where is the data? Or what should I do to be able to upload the files successfully? It’s a local site and the server isn’t set up for Internet traffic or I’d provide a link.

  • Have you tried emptying your trash? Have you checked your wp_posts table?

Thank you! I’m a simpleton! I guess I was thinking if they were in the trash they weren’t visible anymore. But now I understand a little bit about how import works. I had two choices, to empty the trash and upload and import the file again or just restore them and hook them all back up again on the menu page etc. I chose to just restore them as I’m still trying to wrap my head around how file structure works in WP so it’s good practice for me to go through that process.
I didn’t get as far as the wp_posts table as I found what I needed in the trash. But I suppose that’s in the database. Is that where you’re talking about?

Yes – I did mean the table in your database. ??
