• Sorry – complete newbie …

I have changed the config file to accurately represent my username and password etc and resaved and renamed the file.

I have uploaded all files to my root directory (in this case https://www.domain.com/html.

In FTP mode I can see the config file in this directory. All permissions are appropriate.

The install php is therefore in https://www.domain.com/html/wp-admin.

When I run this from my web browser I get an error saying file does not exist. Tech support also suggests that the install is looking for a component which does not exist.

Launching install.php from the FTP (which I know is wrong) gives me the error that it can’t find the config file. But it is in the root directory?

Somewhat frustrating and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

  • 1. The install should be:
    https://www.domain.com/html/wp-admin/install.php
and it has to be run from your broser, meaning type this in the address bar of your favorite browser.
    2. Though if the “root” of your server path is “html” – usually that doesn’t have to appear in the URI, so it might be
    https://www.domain.com/wp-admin/install.php

Sorry, also a newbie but having the same problem. If I try https://domain.com/bcblog/wp-admin/install.php, I get the following error from my new webhost:

“404 Error > File Not Found”

If I try https://domain.com/bcblog/install.php (without the wp-admin part), I get an error that seems to be generated by the WordPress files I uploaded:

“There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.”

I’ve triple checked all the procedures but can’t figure it out. Any clues?

    Thanks,
    Brian

    @brian,
I am afraid you uploaded the WP files without keeping the folder structure (or it happened when you unzipped the download package).
WP should have 3 or 4 directories (depending on the version) and a lot of files when correctly unzipped.

Yes—that looks like the problem… apparently a WinZip newbie also.. Thanks!

You are right my installation of wordpress did not retain the folder structure – I beleieve I have resolved this and now I’m back to the msg saying the wp-config file is not there(I get this when I run install.php from wordpress directory). When I run wp-admin/install.php the msg is ..

“Warning: extract(): First argument should be an array in /home/indianes/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2170”

I hope this helps -I know this should be in separate thread but just shed more light on this similar prob.
I have requested a list outling the correct locations of the files. refer ..
