Hi I’m running a new WP 3.5 install on Godaddy shared Linux hosting. I can’t get a single backup to complete. It starts and dumps the db fine. However it just hangs after that.

At first I thought it was a problem with dropbox but I turned it off and am just trying to dump the backup to a local directory on the server. There is a sql file in the tmp folder.

There is a 130mb tar.gz file in the backup folder I set. If I just do a db backup it completes fine. Any ideas?

After a lot of playing around I found that I can get the job to complete if I exclude the Content>Gallery folder. ( I’m using NextGEN Gallery) The backup size drops from 157MB to 77MB. Could BackWpUp be having trouble with the large file size? The Gallery has all the pictures in it.

Normaly not 157 MB not large.

But i can limitations of Hoster that i can’t check for.

    Hi Daniel,

But i can limitations of Hoster that i can't check for.

I am not quite sure what you mean by this?

Ok, many hoster limits the execution of php scripts not only with php.ini settings. The have other software that can terminate php scripts if it yuses to many resurces or working to long.

    Hello Daniel.

I have the same problem – Godaddy, shared hosting, and no way to make a complet backup.

    My size is:
    DB Size: 55.07 MB
    Files Size: 312.09 MB

The daily db backup works very good. I always receive my email with it.

I called Godaddy support today and they advised me that it is permission issue with their shared hosting. They said it would only work on a dedicated hosting plan. I am not sure I believe that totally unless it is something specific to the “Gallery” folder. It works otherwise. mmmmmm?

I have managed to do one single full backup on my server. After that it is a no go.

This is the funny thing. First I thought that it is connected with server onload during the day but I have tried doing it on various day times and still got stuck.

So I was having some other random issues with my godaddy hosting. Then yesterday they all of a sudden they mysteriously cleared up after GoDaddy claimed there was nothing wrong ?? I made no changes to my site.

I then did an update to WordPress to 3.5.1 and also changed my PHP form 5.2 to 5.3. (The backups started working before I did this)

The backup job has now completed for three nights in a row. It does have one ERROR but then restarts and completes.
