Can't get images to display

I have moved a website from one host to another. I uploaded a new wordpress install, new theme install and new plugin install. Then I put in the database in the wp-config file and uploaded the images to the uploads directory in wp-content. My images only show a white box with the x even though I have checked and the images are in the directory. The hosting company told me to ask wordpress support what to do.
