• I’am running MAMP PRO on my computer. I tried upgrading from version 4 to 5. When I did I was not able to access my blog. I uninstall version 5 and reverted back to MAMP PRO 4.5 and reinstalled WordPress. When I did that I was not able to login to my original blog but a new WordPress blog I don’t need. Will someone please help me to access my original blog? I have been using and posting on it since 2016.

  • When you reinstalled WordPress, did you delete the old database? Did you use the same database as before? If either one, it sounds like you got rid of the old one.
If the old database is still there, all you need to do is change the credentials in wp-config.php to point to that one instead of the new one.

I’m a newbie at computer langue. I have a back up copy of my old database on my desktop. Right now I have all the files from the new website in a root folder. I don’t know how to change the credentials in wp-config.php to point to that one instead of the new one. What do you mean by “point to that one instead of the new one? Should I place the old database that is in it own folder with the new files that are in a separate folder in the root folder?

    Macintosh HD/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/document root folder.

I’ve been following this video the best that I can.

There are two parts to a WordPress installation: database and files. If the backup is only the files, then it doesn’t have the important part which is the database where the post content is saved. The file folders hold your uploaded images, and your installed themes and plugins. The database has all your settings and all your content.

The wp-config.php file is in the root of the WrodPress folder, that tells WordPress how to connect to the database (what the prefix is, what the user name is, what the password to the database is).
If you can get into phpMyAdmin, you can see the databases and their prefixes, and determine if the new one overwrote the old or if there are two.

You can import the backup database into the one existing database.
