    Hi
have installed Jetpack and activated the Mobile Theme plugin but viewing the site on an iPhone / Safari I only see the regular desktop theme. Site is https://www.jockrock.org.
Haven’t got any caching software installed, and it’s not just the landing page, individual posts also fail to show the mobile theme. (Have tried disabling other plugins, though must admit I’m never confident that it doesn’t load a previous version).
It is a custom theme, but haven’t seen any other users have this problem and some must also have non-standard themes?
    Thanks

    Stuart

  • I got a new theme last week, which I love, Gusto by Pirenko. After installing, I found that our site is not showing up on Android or Iphones. Disabled all plugins and found that Jetpack was the culprit. I came over here and saw all of the problems and hoped that you guys would do an update after WordPress 4.0 took place, but so far, haven’t seen one.

I use a lot of the jetpack features and don’t want to disable it, but I also need to have the site viewed on all devices.

    We are at: https://www.tafaforum.com

Any chance of this getting fixed soon? My other sites using jetpack seem to be ok.

@stuartmchugh You’re currently running 2 difference caching services: WP-Super-Cache and CloudFlare. Both can work with Jetpack, but you’ll need to update your WP Super Cache settings to handle Jetpack. You can do so by going to Settings > WP Super Cache > Advanced, and checking the “Mobile device support” option. Once you’ve done so, go to Settings > WP Super Cache > Plugins, and enable Jetpack’s Mobile Theme option.

You can then delete your WP Super Cache cached files and you’ll be good to go.

@rachel Biel Since you use the W3 Total Cache plugin, you’ll also need to change your plugin settings to handle Mobile Themes like Jetpack’s Mobile Theme.

    Thanks, Jeremy!

Jeremy, appreciate the reply – er, I need to check on Cloudflare as I think my host may have turned it on for all accounts. But WP Super Cache… it was installed before but I disabled it, it is showing as inactive. However, if you can see it then it must somehow be active… I’ll either delete it, or try the settings hint. Thanks!

I’m not sure if this will show up as it’s marked as resolved, but here goes for now.. I think Jetpack is working now, pretty much, so thanks for that. Apart from…

when I browse to https://www.jockrock.org the regular (unresponsive) web main page is the one that shows up. If I click on a category then the Jetpack-powered page shows the 5 most recent posts or whatever, it’s just the front / landing page not working.

I have set up a new landing page and blog page in Settings but can’t find a way to ‘force’ the browser to show the Jetpack Mobile version. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I was hoping Jetpack’s mobile version would get round any need to redesign but now I’m not sure….

    ach, also…
the drop-down menu shown is actually a list of all the available pages. Found a suggestion that I should temporarily switch to 2012 and activate the new menu, but to no avail…

when I browse to https://www.jockrock.org the regular (unresponsive) web main page is the one that shows up.

That page is still cached by WP Super Cache. Once you’ve activated the options I mentioned in my last post, you’ll want to flush your cache to make sure you delete all cached versions of your site.

the drop-down menu shown is actually a list of all the available pages.

Jetpack’s Mobile Theme will display the menu that you’ve assigned to the Primary Menu location under Appearance > Menus in your dashboard. As long as your theme includes a Primary Menu location, you don’t have to switch themes. Could you go to Appearance > Menus, and make sure you’ve assigned a menu to the Primary location?

Thanks for persevering with this Jeremy. Had already flushed the cache but to no avail. Have disabled the plugin for now. Maybe I should also ditch Cloudflare?

The theme doesn’t support menus unfortunately (which was why hoped switching might do the trick) – have added one via a Custom Widget as suggested but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference.

WP Super Cache is still active on your site, I’m afraid. I still get a cached version of your site when visiting it on an iPhone.

I would suggest that you add support for custom menus by following the instructions here:

I removed WP SC and got a message from WordPress saying that indeed it was still active and I had to remove code from .htaccess, which I did. I’m not convinced that it’s gone though (see below)… Just turned off Cloudflare as well and flushed the cache.

I made the menu changes as per the codex link (thanks for that). Wasn’t sure what menu to enable to work on mobile only so I enabled the extra one (nothing happened). Then enabled the top one and of course got the entire 30-category menu above my home page header. Disabled both of them, and… it’s still there. I assume that this was cached and now won’t go away. Any hints at all appreciated if you get the chance (realise this is well outside your ‘remit’…)

Edit: have made some progress here (cache seemed quite persistent, plus I followed WP’s menu instructions too slavishly…) so in case you come across this again please feel free to ignore – for the time being ! ??
Thanks for the info so far…

I am trying to get a better looking mobile site with active menus. I installed Jetpack with this in mind but I can’t seem to find a way to get the front page to update on the mobile device. In addition, I can’t find a way to customize it. I thought that it will automatically display most of my content on the mobile device. I do not have a WP Super Cache plugin installed and I have activated the mobile Jetpack plugin according to instructions. What am I missing?
