I am trying to use Duplicator version 1.3.36. I am using it with MAMP version 4.2.0.23973. My computer OS is Windows 10.

I have gotten to step 2 in duplicator. But the “next” button is grayed out. I chose “create new database” and followed instructions according to an instruction video which is two years old. I couldn’t find any newer ones.

It looks like I am supposed to validate the database, but how do you validate a database that doesn’t yet exist?

Any help would be appreciated. I’m glad I’m trying this out before buying the pro version.

  • Hey @tgc5308,

Thanks for the feedback! The quick start has a video that shows the process here:

    The full overview is here:

Let me know if this helps~

In the instruction video i saw you can make up a name for your database and Duplicator will import the information into that database. Is this incorrect?

Why would I have to set one up in CPanel if Duplicator is supposed to automatically migrate the old info into the new staging site?

    Hey @tgc5308,

Yes, when you create the database you will give it a name and Duplicator can connect to it. Duplicator can build the Database for you, but on most hosting providers this is a security issue so they block that capability from Duplicator and require you to use the tools they have. On 99% of most hosts if you contact support they will create the database for you and then give you the information that Duplicator needs.

    Hope that helps~

Hello again. I contacted my host and was told that I can just create a new database myself. I did this but I am still getting a validation error.

“Unable to connect the user [********] to the host [localhost]. The server error response was: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.”

    What does this mean?

I changes “localhost” to the file name on my computer where the install file is stored. Now I get this.

    “Error Processing Request
An error occurred while testing the database connection! Please Try Again…
If the error persists contact your host for database connection requirements.
    Status details: timeout”
