I’ve installed the latest version of WordPress on my machine, together with the PTA Volunteer Sign Up Sheets plugin and the PTA Shortcode plugin, activated them both, added add_filter( ‘widget_text’, ‘do_shortcode’ ); to the theme’s function file but the PTA signup sheet isn’t working at all – it just renders the shortcode as code. Please help!!!

My plugin has its own widgets. I’m not sure what you are trying to do, but you usually can’t put shortcodes in a text widget. Even with that “hack” you found to try to enable shortcodes in widgets, it still won’t be supported by all themes.

This has nothing to do with my plugin. If it’s rendering the shortcode as text, that means that it’s not calling the respective shortcode function (your theme is not allowing it). Nothing I can do about that in my plugin, as my plugin’s function are not getting called if it’s not recognizing the shortcode.

Note that on my own dev site, I’m using the Twenty Sixteen theme, and shortcodes are working in a text widget without having to use that “hack” in the functions.php file. So, if it’s not working for you, it’s your theme. Maybe try the newer Custom HTML widget instead of a text widget. Shortcodes should work in that without that widget filter hack. Works in that widget for my dev site and twenty sixteen theme also.

Thanks for your help. I ended up reinstalling WordPress, as I was at the beginning of the build process, and using the same theme as before and for some reason it worked without the functions.php hack. Not sure why TBH!
