I have had the “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)” box unchecked yet my articles still get clogged up with pingbacks from around the web. I can’t seem to turn off pingbacks in any way.

The setting you speak of only sets the default for future posts/pages, you’ll still need to edit each individual post/page to disable trackbacks and pingbacks on them.

To do that, edit each existing post/page, scroll bellow the editor to the Discussion box and uncheck “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.” then save the post/page. If you don’t see the Discussion box below the editor, hit the Screen Options tab near the top-right and check “Discussion” to enable the Discussion options below the editor.

Alternatively, try a plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/remove-pingback-trackback-comments/

Ah ok, so old posts aren’t affected by changing “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page” on the discussion settings page. I’ll go through the old ones and change their settings individually then.

    Thanks for the reply!
