Can’t get WordPress.com API key — password issue!

As my first step to solving my spam problem, I have tried activating the Akismet plugin. I get a message saying it’s almost ready to to get the WP API key (that’s in a link).
When I click on the link (https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=auth&redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fdashboard.wordpress.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fprofile.php), I get a login screen, then I get an error message saying my login info is incorrect!
Nothing works from here! Neither the password with which I log in to my blog (which works when I log in), nor the email address I enter when I click on the “Forgot password” link — the same email that is associated with my profile!
Anybody have any suggestions? I’m stumped!
