Can’t handle an ampersand in the search text

This plugin is unable to handle an ampersand character in the search text, which is frustrating. There is an issue logged in Github about this that’s over a year old, and it still hasn’t been fixed, which is disappointing.

I had a look to see if I could fix it myself, but unfortunately I don’t have a clear understanding of where the escaping/urlencoding should be done.
