I have downloaded 3.0.2 uploaded via FTP. Created wp-config.php with database name, username and password. Even put 777 permission on wp-config.php. But when I run wp-admin/install.php nothing happens. In google chrome only I get that something might be wrong with configuration. But I have only set database data and uploaded wp-config.php. What could be wrong?

    SOLVED!
The problem was the PHP safe mode, it was ON. Now is OFF and everything is working. Thank you Alex and Anthony for your time and for trying to help me.

yeah, i didn’t even think about that

@ayerdesign – I know you said you checked your config settings. However, wanted to ask if you’ve double-checked the SQL server address? GoDaddy requires a specific SQL, not just the typical ‘localhost’. That usually where that comes from, in my experience.

    <–SOLVED–>
Turned out everything on my end was exactly config’d as it is supposed to be, just really horrible luck/service from godaddy. Problem was with their servers, not sure what. after spending several hours on the phone my DB’s magically populated with no explanation from them at all.

    Thanks everyone for the support!

Glad to hear that it was resolved. I have never had good luck with GD for hosting. Love ’em for domain registration, but won’t touch them for hosting. I prefer to stick with hosts that have a standard cPanel interface – much easier to use, IMO.

    Take care!

I have the same problem. Had to change password on MySQL to get past the install stage, which then brought up the login sequence, followed by a blank page.

Where do I find the “PHP Safe Mode” switch, to check if it is on or off?

I have another blog on the same server, have upgraded it to V3 and it’s still working fine.

Blog I’m trying to set up is https://www.blog.thundersmouththeatre.com. Server is IX Webhosting. Been using them for years, also using WP.org for years.

    Any advice much appreciated.

Just in case anyone else wanders by this post, looking for the answer, I solved it by deleting the pre-installed plugins and themes in the WordPress 3 download. I found this solution thanks to the help desk at IXWebhosting, who searched through the forum for some possible solutions for me.
