    Evening,

I just did a fresh install of WordPress 5.8

I tried to install plugins via the WordPress Plugin Directory but it fails and displays the following message :
Installation failed: The package could not be installed.

I tried to download a plugin (Classic Editor) and upload it via the “Upload Plugin” tool but if also fails and displays the following message :
    Unpacking the package…
    Installing the plugin…
The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.
    Plugin installation failed.

I checked the zip and it contains the files directly for the plugin (ie : not in a subdirectory)

If I try to install it manualy by placing it in the wp-content/plugin folder, everything works fine.

    Any idea what’s blocking ?

    Thanks.

It seems to me that you might be running out of disk space. What’s the disk space situation on your server?

    (@nablacorp)

I have over 700 Gb free and the plugin is under 1 Mb

Does your WP PHP process have the ability to write into your web server directory tree? I see you’re using a Windows host. I have no experience with that so I suggest you ask your host to look into it.

I can see the zip of the plugin in /wp-content/uploads/2021/08 so I guess it does yes

the zip shouldn’t be there. When you upload a WP plugin zip file, it goes into the tmp directory and is then unzipped into wp-content/plugins. So, I’ve got to ask, how are you uploading a plugin?

    (@nablacorp)

Using the “Upload Plugin” button on this page : mysite.com/wp-admin/plugin-install.php
It seems to be unzipped into the folder wp-content/upgrade

Using the auto-installer I can see the plugin in this folder
    \wp-content\upgrade\classic-editor.1.6.2-DtFmLQ\classic-editor

    Found the reason !

My website was in a subdirectory with the parent named “[Nabla]” like this [Nabla]/mysite

I removed the brackets and it works fine now : Nabla/mysite

Seems like IIS/PHP/WordPress doesn’t like brackets on windows
