Can’t install at root

Using fantastico in Hostgator’s cpanel

Installs OK into a directory as in domain.com/blog.

When I install at root as in domain.com, I can log-in at admin but when I refresh page at domain.com my old web page is still there. No blog.

Just checked file manager and see there is no directory named ‘blog’, but if I go to domain.com/blog – there’s the blog.
