• I recently installed wordpress and purchased a Theme I wanted to use for site. I use 1and1 for hosting. I installed wordpress 3.1 and was able to download the theme I purchased to wordpress with no problems (via FTP). In order to import the sample of the theme I need to download importer. So I tried and it failed. So I got the zip file, unpacked, and put in plug ins folder. WordPress recognizes it just fine. When I go to activate the plug in it goes to blank screen. Then I can not access anything on WP. It all just goes to blank white screens. The only way I can access dashboard again is going back to FTP and deleting plug in.

please any advice would help, I have been troubleshooting this for 2 days now and I’m at whits end. ??

    Chris

  • Have you tried multiple plugins? Which plugin is getting that result?

It may be an issue with the plugin. I also know that certain hosts give you trouble when using the Automatic Installer for plugins and the Upgrade system.

I did some more searching and have been trying random things I see associated with 1and1. I applied this fix and suddenly I am able to download plug ins with no problem.

“Well, I use 1and1, one of their linux business servers. I have been running 3.1 RC2 for a while. To get past the PHP5 thing I had to create a file named .htaccess in the top directory of wordpress and give it the following code.
    Options All -Indexes
    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

    # BEGIN WordPress

    # END WordPress
Note that the name begins with a ., which you can’t do in windows. I had to name it txt.htaccess, ftp it up, and then change its name.

That worked. For RC2. I have yet to be able to upgrade to 3.1. I think they have screwed the pooch.”
