I let my URL expire on my blog (it was glutenfreehungrygal.com) over a year ago. I host with HostGator and my domain is through GoDaddy. I was worried I lost all of my blog content, because glutenfreehungrygal.com/wp-admin was no longer working (obviously). I worked with HostGator to find that all my content is still there, and they gave me this URL to use with /wp-admin behind it to log in. However, now when I do that, WP is telling me that my username/email address is invalid, so I can’t even reset the password if I wanted to. I can’t get into the dashboard! I also purchased a new URL and plan to switch everything to that, but I want to make sure I can log in before I do so.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Checked, are u sure that you really know your mail or username?

Or did they give you a new? Maybe another login known from other blog admin?

Is strange, normally it works definitely smooth.

Thanks for the response. I literally tried every login and email I could have possibly had associated with the account, though it was always been the same email and login from what I remember. It is the same one I used to log in and write this question. And my photo is the same in the top right corner, so I don’t know how it would be different.

When I type in /wp-admin, it redirects me to this URL: vbnhn.hosts.cx/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fglutenfreehungrygal.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

I see that it basically stats it’s redirecting from glutenfreehungrygal.com (which I no longer have). I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I thought I’d mention it.

    Hi @brynne10,

Here is a much technical way of getting credentials. This is a solution l use quite frequently. If you have access to your MyPhpAdmin for that said domin – login there or ask your the hosting company to do it for you.

Once there check the list on the left and click on the database you used for your website and all the tables will be expanded on the left.

Check on the left hand side for WP-USER, if you click on it on your right hand side all the users for that website will be listed. Check for the one with administration rights and look for the email address used.
Now you know which email the admin used so you can go back to your wp admin login page and reset your password using the email address.

Also you mentioned that you are getting a redirect to a weird url when you try to open the wp-admin page.

Maybe try to open the front-end of the website first:
    1. https://vbnhn.hosts.cx/
    2. Then afterwards you are asked if you want to proceed etc [approve that]
    3. After when you can view the front-end of your website then add /wp-admin to the url.

That should work it worked for me or you could try clear cache from your browser.

Okay @thelmachido, I did the first step you suggested, and the email address is not mine at all. It is someone elses. Is there a process to report this? It looks like I might be able to change the username there? I think I’ll try that.

Ohh l see. You can change the username and email address there.

Did it work? We are in different time zones. Did it work?

We are in different time zones l went to bed*

I made the change and it is at least saying “ERROR: The password you entered for the username brynne10 is incorrect. Lost your password?” (rather than saying it’s not a valid email) so I tried to reset my password, but it is still not emailing a link to my email. I checked spam and everything. In the phpMyAdmin, wp_users I did not update the user_activation-key, because I don’t know what that is. So maybe that’s still linked to this other person’s email and they are getting the reset email? I’m not sure what to do next.

I AM IN! I double checked my SPAM and there the reset was. Thank you so much!

That’s great news Brynne. You are most welcome. Glad that you managed to resolve it. ??
