Did you recently activate a MailChimp plugin?

I think I updated it.

Temporarily rename the directory /wp-content/plugins/nmedia-mailchimp-widget to /wp-content/plugins/nmedia-mailchimp-widget.HOLD. See if that stops the error.

Yep. Use a FTP client to rename it.

Rename the directory to the way it was originally and then contact your host. Ask them if they have implemented any security measures that you would prevent your plugin from using fopen/fread/fclose.
