I have no problem logging into my WP account on a desktop computer, but my iPhone suddenly (since last week) won’t let me do it anymore. I get only the wordpress logo on the center of the screen. I tried shutting off cookies, but WP wouldn’t load at all until I re-activated them.

  • HI,

Current issue aside, I hope all is well.

When you’re logging in from your iPhone are you doing this through the dedicated app or mobile browser?

If it is the mobile browser have you tried going into private browsing more or incognito mode in the Google Chrome mobile version?

Please provide as many details as possible. I’d like to see if I can help you with this.

    Thanks!

Logging in with Safari. The only options I have are:

    Search Engine (Google)
    Search Engine Suggestions (On)
    Spotlight Suggestions (On)
    Quick Website Search (On)
    Preload Top Hit (On)
Passwords and Autofill (irrelevant to this issue)
    Favorites (irrelevant)
    Open Links (In new tab)
    Block Pop-ups (On)
    Do Not Track (On)
    Block Cookies (Always Allow)
    Fraudulent Website Warning (On)
Clear History and Website Data (I’ve done it)
    Use Cellular Data (On)
    Advanced:

    Website data (zero bytes)
    JavaScript (On)
    Web Inspector (off)

    Hi,

Can you try to go into private browsing mode and try logging in again?

Here is Apple’s support document on accessing this mode:

That worked. But I don’t recall ever selecting private browsing before. Does this mean I now have to remain in that mode? If so, is there any downside to that?

    Hi,

Usually private browsing mode isn’t something you select. It sometimes useful in helping determining login issues. When you browse the Internet in any browser, your browser stores information about places you’ve visited, etc. Sometimes that can cause login issues depending on a number of circumstances. If you’ve gone into private browsing mode and see that the issue is now gone one thing you can try to do is clear the cache in your normal browsing mode.

Here is an article that details that:

    https://www.imore.com/how-clear-stored-website-data-ios-7-safari

I would caution you in that clearing cache can wipe out other information such as stored passwords. However, if you’re not using mobile Safari other than for casual browsing this may not be a huge issue for you. Please keep in mind that I’m providing this information based off of other login issues I’ve had with other sites. As such your mileage can vary. If you really want to do another acid test I would recommend going to the App store and downloading the Google Chrome browser and try logging in from there. This will be an extra layer of confirmation that clearing the cache may be a solid option.

    Hope all is well!
