Neither my admin or support id & password work (in login box) when I click on the link WP emails re updating to WP v.4.2.1.
WordPress 4.2.1 is also now available. Updating is easy and only takes a few moments: https://www.”domain”.com/wp-admin/update-core.php.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • I’m sorry to hear you are having login problems. I’m confused about your problem. How about posting a link to your site?

Can you log into the site directly? What is the URL

    Hello Radices,
I can log into my site directly. The site’s url is https://www.rentmothernature.com.
My problem may be that I don’t have the correct password to access the wp email links because these emails were originally sent to the person who set up site. I changed the email address in wp_option file to my non-admin email address, where these notices are now sent.
I compounded my problems by initially creating a wp support identity with a different email address from the one where wp notices are sent. I have fixed that (as you may notice I have a different one now). Hope this gets to you.
    Thanks.

If I log into box that pops up when I click wp’s emailed link using the same id & password I use to successfully access the site [https://www.rentmothernature.com] I get the message that I “do not have enough permission to access this page”. The access settings in wp_admin/about.php are 777.

I’m not sure I see the problem. If you can login to the site and have admin access why are you concerned about the email link?

My problem is that I want to be able to update my website to version 4.2.1 by clicking the link in the wp email’s link. Otherwise, I need to manually update my website. Is that correct? Clicking on link in admin panel doesn’t do the job.

Can you login to the dashboard and on the left side menu at the top there is a menu item called Dashboard. Mouse over it and the sub menu Update will show. Click on that and you should be able to update your WordPress version and see any plugins / themes that have updates too.

There is a shortcut to updates in the admin bar across the tops as well, just to the right of your Sites name … looks like a circle of two arrows. It shows the number of updates available and takes you to the same page.

There is no sub-menu under “dashboard” (update). The WP logo has a sub-menu with “About Word Press”, Word press.org, documentation (codex main page), support forums & feedback. None of the address my need to find a one-click method of updating to wp v4.2.1. Admin page does have message re “wp4.2.1 is available >contact site administrator”, which also takes me to codex main page.

What do you see under Dashboard? Do you have admin rights to the site?

I have a list of features: media, pages, products (which allows me to edit my products), slideshows, sliders, contact, tools (export & import), RMN Admin, profile. I have some admin rights to site, although I do see the “you do not have enough permission” message sometimes. I can change products, prices, etc. I can access DB. Person who set up site is no longer around.

I see well there’s the problem. You need full admin rights.

Where is the site hosted? Do you have access to the hosting control panel (cPanel). You will need to access the database directly and change your user rights to regain control of the site.

my site is hosted on pair.com. I can access phpmyadmin there. When I type my domain name.com/cpanel I see a 404 error. Don’t know if this cpanel is part of my custom-built site’s configuration.
    Thanks again

I don’t think they use cpanel at pair.com ..looks like they have a custom made control panel. So if you can get into the database with phpMYAdmin then change your user rights in the users_meta table.
