• I keep getting this message when I try to log in. I enter my username and password and get this:
Warning: main(admin.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/shop/public_html/#########/wp-admin/index.php on line 2

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘admin.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/shop/public_html/#########/wp-admin/index.php on line 2

Recently I deleted over 1000 “core” files that had somehow been dumped into my blog folder. I’m afraid I may have thrown something else out, but I’m not sure what. The blog is running, but I can’t get to the dashboard.

I have a back-up version from about a month ago.

    Anybody have any ideas?

  • Did you check via FTP whether the admin.php file is there and intact?

There is a wp-admin folder there, yes

I polietly point out that that’s not what Moshu asked you.

Is the admin.php file there and intact?

Is there an admin.php file within the wp-admin subdirectory?

Also, is it get to be world wide readable? (644 on a linux system)

The error message you’re getting is saying that it can’t find the file. So, it’s either not there or not readable.

    Hope this helps,

There is no admin.php file inside the wp-admin folder

You’ll want to go get one. As you’re running an older version (1.5.2 it would appear) grab the proper zip from https://static.www.ads-software.com/archives

Unzip that and upload wp-admin/admin.php to your blog.

Could I just pull it out of my last back up and drop it in?

    yup.

    now I’m getting this:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare check_admin_referer() (previously declared in /home/shop/public_html/########/wp-includes/pluggable-functions.php:228) in /home/shop/public_html/######/wp-admin/admin-functions.php on line 474

    WTF?

If that backup is current, I’d suggest uploading the rest of your /wp-admin files.

I backed up on August 17, are you suggesting I should FTP ALL of the files from the wp-admin folder?

    Yes’m. I am.

It won’t affect your posts — they’re safely tucked away in the database. If you’ve not updated the WP software since Aug. 17 then I’d go for it, yes.

Okay….(hands trembling with fear) I’ll give it a go.

    Arrrggggg…..
    Here’s what I’m getting:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare check_admin_referer() (previously declared in /home/shop/public_html/#######/wp-includes/pluggable-functions.php:228) in /home/shop/public_html/#####/wp-admin/admin-functions.php on line 474

Hmmph. I was really hoping that would’ve solved it while I drove home from work. :-\

Permissions good on all the files you just copied up from your backup?

Asides from deleting those cores, any other blog changes recently? Theme or plugin edits?

Ok, next big step: Compare the files in your backup from /wp-includes to the files at your web host. They all there?

I’ll get on that after dinner
