    Hi there.

I’ve been trying for HOURS to find answers through the forums and following tips and am now pulling my hair out!

Question 1: When I log in to my blog I see the login feature under Meta, but when I use the login information supplied via email, I get an error message. This information supplied to me will only log me in to the Codex Support Forum. So, I currently have NO way to log in to my new self-hosted blog.

I am TRYING to transfer my WordPress.com blog to my new www.ads-software.com blog. The domain name has changed. I don’t want to redirect and use domain mapping.

I NEED to get logged in so that I can access the Administration Page because I want to change my Permalink info to match what is being used on my WordPress.com blog before the upload.

I have exported my WordPress.com blog and want to upload it to my new blog. I have a host and have already uploaded WordPress 2.6.

Question 2: I do see an “upload file” choice in Codex. When I try to upload the exported WordPress.com file I am asked for a destination. I have no idea what the destination is. I’m guessing that I’m in the wrong place. But I don’t know that because I can’t get logged in to begin with.

PLEASE HELP — I’m losing my mind!!!!

    Thank you

    www.ads-software.com Admin

www.ads-software.com does not connect to your self-hosted blog in any way at all. Your site is your site, self-contained and fully independent. You should have got the admin login and password when you set up WordPress to begin with.

Thanks, but I’m still in the dark.

When I try to log in to my www.ads-software.com blog I’m getting an incorrect username / password message. I did not get a password when I downloaded the www.ads-software.com software. (Who would have given me this info then to log into www.ads-software.com?) When I try to log into my new blog at www.ads-software.com a www.ads-software.com login menu comes up? How does that not show I am connected to www.ads-software.com?

When I use the “new” login info that is emailed from this log in menu experience it does not log me in. What is that info for then? It is in response to my request to log in?

I don’t understand about www.ads-software.com not connecting me to my self-hosted blog. My understanding was that www.ads-software.com was self-hosted and WordPress.com was independent.

This was from Question 2: In Codex, what is that “upload file” about then? I thought that was where the exported files from my wordpress.com blog would be uploaded. And if that is the case, how do I know what destination to pick?

When I try to log into my new blog at www.ads-software.com…

Once again: there is NO blog at www.ads-software.com. Period. www.ads-software.com does NOT host any blogs. Can you read? No blog here.

Your login is there, at your domain:
https://www.shadesofcrimson.com/wp-login.php – where the software from wp.org has been installed.
During the installation process it gave you the user (=admin) and a random generated password. You should use THAT one to login into your blog.

Just tyo make it clear: you are mixing 3 [three] sets of user/password combos:
    – wordpress.COM
    – www.ads-software.com (THIS forum here)
    – your blog at https://www.shadesofcrimson.com/

That means 3 separate users, 3 separate passwords. Do NOT mix them!

Maybe, if all these things are above your head, you should stick to wordpress.com.

Obviously I can read. I can also learn too, with the right people to support and encourage me.

When I go to shadesofcrimson.com and try to log in under META (as per instructions that I read in another stream of questions), I am directed to WordPress to key in my username and password. Do you not see how that can be confusing?

This might be above my head right now, but I don’t intend to keep it there.

    Thank you for your “support”.

This proves that you cannot read:
When I go to shadesofcrimson.com and try to log in under META (as per instructions that I read in another stream of questions), I am directed to WordPress to key in my username and password.

Look in the address bar: you are at
    https://www.shadesofcrimson.com/wp-login.php
not at www.ads-software.com or .com or whatever. It is just displaying the logo of the software that you got for free.
So, you are not redirected anywhere.

You are writing, so you must believe I can read.

This isn’t about who is right or who is wrong and it seems you are trying to make me wrong. I’m trying to get some support here.

I’m trying to learn and to understand how to work with WordPress, not learn how to read.

I would like to request that replies from this forum please be limited to discussion about the software and how to navigate, rather than directed towards me personally.

    Thanks.

    www.ads-software.com Admin

I’m trying to get some support here.

And we’re trying to give you support here.

What is so hard to grasp about this? You don’t use your www.ads-software.com password to log into your own site. It’s that simple.

Your question has been answered 4 times already. What’s the ongoing problem? Login with your admin name and password. The one you got when you setup the site.

    Thread Starter davinahaisell

    (@davinahaisell)

There is no ongoing problem here except for your attitudes.

I figured this out for myself and thanked you for your support in my 3rd message.

I have never been more disappointed in a support service than by this one. The way you both have treated me here is completely unacceptable.

I didn’t see this option earlier but thankfully, I see it now. I’m marking this as resolved.

    lol
    I missed this one. hmph

hi davinahaisell, i think i might have found your problem, as i two was having this problem. i was not able to log into my stats from the admin side of my blog.

it turns out that the problem was firefox. i am not able to log in for some reason with fire fox. once i switched to safari i was able to log in. it is the same login as your wordpress.com (which is where you can go to check your stats if you can’t log into them at your site).

as for moshu and otto, wow… this is someone that is asking for help and you two just assume they are stupid. as moderators, you two are the face of the company and you just came off as dicks.

Hi Matt. Thanks for your supporting words.

Wow, I googled this forum while trying to solve a similar problem.

Perhaps the issue is not that subscribers can’t read, it might be something to do with having to have a different password for forums, for www.ads-software.com for wordpress.com etc. etc. I keep getting invalid username errors too, but I cannot register that username because it is already taken. It is taken by me. Your database is wordpresswide, but you can only use the username to access the product you signed up for. Here’s a hint, since you’re all wordpress, why don’t you make the login work across the board, and save everyone the hassle of figuring out the magic system you’ve built. Dicks? That’s putting it very nicely. Way to maintain your composure davinahaisell.

wow. what a bunch of assholes that are supposed to be here to help. I, too, am getting the same EXACT issue as the poster. Talk about being afraid to ask for help. Man it gives me a completely bad feeling about WordPress. Perhaps it is the beta version of Safari that is bungling this up for me. Lord knows I won’t expect any help from the “experts.” Has anyone used the Safari 4 beta and had it work?

    Thread Starter davinahaisell

    (@davinahaisell)

    Hi David and Jen.

David: That’s a good suggestion you’ve had about making the login work across the board. When a person is new this can all be very confusing, especially when the login screens look so similar. And these days we all have passwords and usernames coming out our yin/yang.

Jen: I hope you had your problem solved. (Sorry, I don’t know anything about Safari.) This whole thing did leave me questioning how supportive this forum is. Maybe I came on too strong in my explanation, but my intent was not to aggravate. It was coloured with frustration and Otto42 and Moshu clearly misinterpreted it — one of the disadvantages of online forums as opposed to speaking with a person. Having said that… I don’t agree with how they handled things. But I did learn from it though.

Deja Vu all over again. Another WordPress newbie here, so be gentle.

Sounds similar to my problem. Self hosted. Lost my password to my blog. Willing to chalk that up to experience and start a new blog, save the password for that and use it as a learning site.

Problem is, how do I start a new blog. Not kidding. No clue.

    Thanks in advance.
