can’t log into wordpass

i have signed up as the user barrylan– with my email address [email protected]
but when i try to log in and use my password–or the one i thought i had-i am refused. i was obliged to create an entirely new user name just so i could log in and attempt to get help. what do i do to recover what i thought was my original user name and passowrd and be able to log in..or do i have to now maintain a false identify? what i dont understand is that by using the url sent my by my site provider i am automatically logged in..even though that url uses the user name which wordpress refuses to recognize.
