• My website, japanesebottleopener.com has a virus of some sort. If you do a google search for japanese bottle openers, my site will come up with a warning from google that, “this site may harm your computer” Also, I cannot log into wordpress. Apparently someone has deleted my username (I had to re-register to post this) so I cannot get into the site. On 1and1.com where it is hosted and I see lots of traffic files recently posted that I did not upload. The tech person at 1and1 said I should download the file that contains my website and run my antivirus program on it and then re upload it. Any advice on the best way to proceed would be great. Thanks, Mike

  • Well for starters, your account here has absolutely nothing to do with your personal WP installation. I take it you can’t get to the login page to reset the password?

I tried to logon to www.ads-software.com with my original username and password and it did not recognize my username.

Right, I understand that, but that has nothing to do with the issues with your website.

Have you tried resetting your password here? japanesebottleopener.com/wp-login.php

Also, I originally installed the website over a year ago. I had purchased the website from someone else and had never done a wordpress site before so it took me awhile to figure out how to get it re-installed once the domain was mine. It worked fine until I recently noticed the warning from google…

I tried to login at japanesebottleopener.com/wp-login.php and it does not recognize the username that I originally used for the website…

Have you tried resetting the password by clicking the “forgot password” link? I’m not sure if that will send you the username also. If that doesn’t work you can log into PHPmyadmin and check the database to see if the username and pass have been changed or deleted. You can change them there if they have.

I just looked at my admin panel at 1and1.com and it looks like the database is gone.

If you’re able to access the login page the database isn’t gone. If it was, you’d get an error saying “unable to connect to database”. Did you look under “MySQL databses”? Or go straight to PHPmyadmin?

I went to my SQL Administration tab on 1and1 and I see several databases I had created for another website I have, pushdownbottleopener.com but none for japanesebottle

I’m thinking I need to re install the whole thing. I still have the original files that the seller of japanesebottleopener.com emailed to me after I bought the site….

Are you sure about the database name? Because again, if you can access the login page the database is there. If you aren’t sure of the database name you can look in the wp-config file to find out what it is.

Okay, I will look into what you said, thank you for the help…have to go to bed now, take care..
