Can't login after Google Authenticator app-update

Hello do you have any cache plugins?

If you say that you have deleted the folder from your server via FTP then it should not be active any more. Try using another browser if have another one. Make sure that you deleted all your temp files from your computer or laptop.

If none of the above works then there has to be another other plugin storing that information somewhere in your website.

– I do not use any cache plugins
– As said, I deleted the googleauthenticator-folder with FTP
– Even tried to remove the plugin from the database (as suggested here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-google-authenticator-how-can-i-get-access-to-my-blog-when-i-loose-my-phone?replies=15) Didn’t work out because I can not find the darn thing.
– I tried all three major webbrowsers: IE, Chrome & Firefox. Nothing:

That said; you are probably right about some other plugin bothering. The problem is; I use 104 plugins (most of them for testing) I understand the fact you don’t have an answer (yet) to my problem so I will try some other tricks from my sleeve. ??

Hi eamel, you are most welcome. You say you are using 104 plugins? Is that on the same testing website?

I am curious to find out which plugin is causing the problem. If you are using all those plugins on your website simply rename the plugins folder, that should allow you to get back into your website.

This is odd.

I renamed the pluginfolder and created a new -blank- one as you told me to do (oh yes, btw; all plugins are in that same folder) and yet it keeps asking for the authenticatorcode.

And again; I did clean all local browsers with CCleaner.

I’m really flabbergasted. There’s no plugin and yet the system keeps asking. Weird.

That is very strange but there is another solution and that is to replace the WordPress folders and files….

That should do the trick….although in your situation it might not…..

But when I take a look at my other site (had the same problem; deleted the googleauthenticatorfolder and my problem was solved) it does NOT redirect.

Never mind; when I delete the part after https://www.eamel.net/blog/wp-login.php it still keeps asking for the authenticator.

Firstly, thanks to linking to my blog post ??

Secondly, what mbrsolution was suggesting was to completely replace all of the WordPress files with a fresh copy of WordPress. To do this, do the following:

1. Log into your server via FTP and download all of the wp-* files and folders, so that you have a backup of your site.

2. Delete all of the wp-* files and folders.

3. Download a fresh copy of WordPress

4. Extract the zip file and upload it to your server in the same place as your previous installation

5. Copy the wp-config.php file from your backup

This should get you up and running with a clean installation of WordPress, with no plugins or themes. Hopefully you will then be able to log in.

I tried accessing your login page and I too saw the Google Authenticator box, so it looks like a problem on your server. Deleting the folder containing the Google Authenticator plugin should be enough to get rid of it normally though.

The other thing to try is restoring a backup of your phone from before you installed the app update. If you have iCloud backups turned on or sync regularly with iTunes, then you should be able to take your phone back a couple of days and hopefully get the old app working again with your existing tokens.

I was fortunate that I still had the login cookies on my site so I was able to get in without any problems when I updated.

Well. It seems I’ve been a bit lame. I recently moved to another server at my webhost. But when I FTP-ed, it was with the former server. So, whatever I did, it was in the old datafolder.

I just logged in the new one, deleted GA et voila; it works like a charm again.
